“We Found a Way to Grow Without Expanding Our Waste Footprint”: A Sticker Giant Case Study

Lessons for Other Sticker and Label Converters

The first lesson is that sustainability is a process problem, not just a materials swap. Replacing a solvent ink with a water-based alternative doesn’t reduce waste if your press still runs for hours to set up. You have to fix the process that creates the waste.

The second lesson is to underpromise and overdeliver on the implementation timeline. Sticker Giant had budgeted six weeks for the transition; it took more than four months to get everything stable. But in the end, the team became more skilled, and the line is genuinely better.

For converters considering a similar move, Sticker Giant’s experience suggests starting with actual material yield and waste per order. It will tell you more than any sustainability pledge. As for Sticker Giant, they’re not done. They’re now looking at compostable face stock for short-life products and testing a take-back program for used sticker liners. The conversation has shifted from “how do we market something green” to “how do we make the whole chain less wasteful.” That, honestly, is the outcome we hoped for.
